Movies of 2024

In the world of movies, 2024 has started out pretty okay for me. While there have been movies that I have fallen in love with and will definitely rewatch in the future, for the most part, I've left most movies feeling okay at best. This is surprising to me because there were a lot of movies that were announced that I was actually excited to see. For instance, the latest Kung Fu Panda movie was released in April. If you know me, then you would know that I'm an avid Kung Fu Panda fan, to the point where I've watched each movie in the former trilogy several times and have mini-figures of some of the major characters. However, even with my personal love of the movies, I found myself disappointed after watching that movie. This same feeling followed after watching several other movies this year, like The Beekeeper, directed by Guy Ritchie, and IF, directed by and starring John Krankenski. But fear not, friends, I have concocted a list that you should definitely see this year, either at home or in theaters.

Movies to See (2024 Edition)

These movies, I believe, highlight some of the best movies released so far in 2024. But I will put a little disclaimer for myself: I don't really watch horror movies unless I'm forced to by my friends or Jordan Peele decides to release a movie. So if there is a movie, specifically in the horror genre, that isn't on my list that you should be there for, that is the reason. Continuing on with the movies I've listed, I think, besides horror, they display some of the best within various genres. For instance, Dune: Part II is sci-fi, Challengers is a drama, and Mean Girls is a musical. Furthermore, the list showcases big tentpole high-budget movies and even movies made on the lower end. Now, if you're someone like me, you may not have the time to watch these movies. Following this paragraph, there will be a ranking list of which of these movies you should prioritize seeing.

  1. Dune: Part II directed by Denis Villeneuve
  2. Challengers directed by Luca Guadagnino
  3. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes directed by Wes Ball
  4. Mean Girls directed directed by Arturo Perez Jr. and Samantha Jayne
  5. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga directed by George Miller
  6. Drive-Away Dolls directed by Ethan Coen
  7. Monkey Man directed by Dev Patel
  8. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare directed by Guy Ritchie

Movies to Not See (2024 Edition)

Now with all the pleasentries out of the way, it's time to talk about the movies released in 2024 that you should not see even if you were paid to (jk, if someone is willing to pay you to watch a movie, just go watch it). As discussed in the beginning section of this page, this year's movie releases have been pretty average to okay so far. However, that doesn't mean that there weren't some films I had the displeasure of seeing. Some of the movies that will be listed may not be surprising to see on the list. I'm looking at you, Madame Web. But for others I disliked because they just happened to be worse than okay when I viewed it. However, I can totally understand if someone sees my movie on this list and believes it shouldn't be there. For this list, I decided to rank it just so you know how I personally feel about it. Now, without further ado, here is my list.

  1. Madame Web directed by S. J. Clarkson
  2. The Book of Clarence directed by Jeymes Samuel
  3. Kung Fu Panda 4 directed by Mike Mitchell
  4. Boy Kills World directed by Mortiz Mohr
  5. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire directed by Gil Kenan
