The Worry Tree
Now let’s learn some practical ways to tackle worrying. One great tool we can use is called The Worry Tree . It helps us to understand whether a worry is practical or hypothetical, and whether or not we can do something about it. Then, it helps us think about what we can do to deal with the worry, and how we are going to do it.
Take a look at how the worry tree can help break down a problem:
- First, ask yourself: What is my worry? Try to narrow it down to one sentence and write it down.
- Next, ask yourself whether it’s a practical worry. If not, your worry is hypothetical and there is nothing you can do about it. So it’s best to let it go.
- If your worry is practical, the next question would be: Can I do something about it? If not, let it go.
- If the answer is yes, think of as many solutions as you can before you choose the best one, and when the time comes, take action. And again, let that worry go.
