Website Accessibility: About Me

About Me

As a disabled adult who grew up non-disabled, I notice more when things aren't accessible because I know what it is like to function as a "normal" person. Therefore, I am passionate about accessibility in all forms. During this course, I hope to learn more about web design for accessibility. It is important for us to be intentional in our design in order to make accessibility the standard, not a goal.

I am an independent teacher with 20+ years of experience who loves seeing students progress and meet goals. I teach quite a bit of early reading and math and enjoy working with younger learners.

As a Special Education teacher and case manager (2008-2018), I have written and implemented IEPs and taught Elementary Resource (Reading and Math). I have tutored normally developing students for state-wide testing in public schools in all core subject areas. I understand how to modify curriculum and assignments for either disability or learning environment differences. I have also successfully tutored adults for the G.E.D. I started working with kids in 1999 as a preschool teacher, then K-12 substitute in 2004 during college.

My students always do their own work and we work incrementally on specific skills to improve specific academic skills rather than trying to fix everything at once; this is an evidence-based practice that is more successful in the long run. Some students only need a few sessions while others may need more opportunities for success. Each student is different and unique and I celebrate that diversity.

To keep your child engaged, I use a variety of media and interactive activities backed by research to keep your child engaged while learning virtually. I do not use a single curriculum, but instead, tailor lessons to each individual student and their individual needs. I use evidence-based practices whenever possible.

I am always available to my regularly scheduled students and parents between lessons by phone, text, or email from 9 am -9 pm EST, Monday- Friday for homework questions or other concerns at no additional charge.

I'm looking forward to meeting you!

Thank you Jessica Aiesha, 3 lessons with Jessica Tutor responded: Thank you for your positive feedback! It was a pleasure meeting you and your son! Thanks! Jessica has been a wonderful tutor for the past several weeks. She has patiently and skillfully helped my HS son work thru a writing disability, ADD and low confidence. We are looking forward to a more productive and less frustrating year! Thanks Jessica!!! Gary, 7 lessons with Jessica Tutor responded: Thanks for your feedback! I hope you have a wonderful school year! Great teacher Jessica is a very responsible and experienced teacher with lots of patience. She helps my twins for writing and reading comprehension skill. I can see the difference between the lesson starts. And she also makes the digital learning organized and efficient. She also prepared very well on every lesson, the lesson went very smooth. I highly recommend her! Pei-Ju, 21 lessons with Jessica Tutor responded: Thank you for your feedback! Your students are working hard and it shows! Keep up the great work! Jessica is a very patient educator. Jessica has been helping my daughter learn to read. My daughter has picked up word sounds and tries them. A great leap in terms of how she has learned to differentiate some of the word sounds. I am extremely happy about how she is learning to read via online classes. Ms Jessica makes the class interactive and fun, with singing , writing, finding words, rhyming etc. Her patience and the ability to gently bring a child to re-focus on the subject in hand is praiseworthy. Hema, 27 lessons with Jessica Patient, encouraging, amazing! Jessica started helping our son with his writing assignments while our public school system experimented with distance learning during COVID 19. Jessica was super patient and encouraging as our son, who needs extra time due to executive functioning challenges associated with ADHD and slow processing speed. Jessica provided keen observations about our son's needs as they pertained to writing, which helped inform our work with his teacher and school counselors in developing an IEP. As the school year wound down, we came up with the idea for a fictional story that our son could write over the summer. Although writing is his toughest subject, our son was enthusiastic about the idea. He has been writing his story with Jessica's help over the past month. When Jessica felt that our son had reached a lull in his work, she reached out to me for feedback so we could determine what he needed to progress. I can't say enough great things about Jessica. She has been a great tutor to our son and a huge help to continue our son's summer learning. Iris, 44 lessons with Jessica Tutor responded: Thank you for your feedback! It has been a pleasure to work with your son and watch his confidence with digital learning improve. Excellent! Would recommend to anyone. I'm extremely happy with the choice I made. Mrs. H. was always professional, prompt and prepared. We covered many years of math in 4 weeks, at a pace tailored to me. She listened to my needs, answered questions, came with handouts, and was available for me to call or email anytime. For those reasons, I couldn't be happier. Being one on one accelerated my learning, and I can't imagine a teacher working harder to make and maintain a lesson plan for me. She was as friendly as you'll find, and seemed to genuinely care about my education. She made this process easy and comfortable. If I could, I would give her 6 stars to repay the favor, because she gave me 110%. We tackled some pretty difficult tasks, so I would highly recommend for any learning level! Dylan, 11 lessons with Jessica Tutor responded: Thank you for the feedback, Dylan! Congratulations on passing your test with honors! I know you worked really hard to achieve that. Good luck in Utah!
